Why did we choose Greeneville for our retirement years?  It’s quite simple, the people!  Our friends live in Mosheim and when we started looking for a place to retire they urged us to look around Greeneville.  We immediately fell in love with the mountains, rolling hills, availability of shopping and the wonderfully friendly folks that welcomed us everywhere we went!  Greeneville has good churches, a great climate, and the feeling of living in a caring community.

I began attending retirement seminars in 1999 to prepare for my upcoming retirement, which was still a good eight to 10 years away.  I was excited to plan for my future and I had a few ideas already in mind.  I was born in Kentucky but lived in Florida for the majority of my life, and my wife and I were looking to retire somewhere with fresh air, beautiful lakes and streams, four seasons, and no traffic jams.

One of my favorite hobbies is flying and I have held a pilot’s license since 1971.  When I came across an advertisement for Hensley Airpark in a popular aviation magazine in 2001, I thought it ironic that it was located in Chuckey, Tennessee, since my nickname is Chuck.  My wife and I planned a trip to explore the area and to say that we were blown away would be an understatement.  Mountains in our backyard, the Nolichuckey River a mile away, an abundance of wildlife, and beautiful rolling hills with scattered farmland all around is more than we could have dreamed for, and all of this with a 3,000-foot asphalt runway right next to our future home! It was paradise, and the people of Greene County only amplified that feeling with their friendly and helpful manner.  I realized quickly that family values and good living are still prevalent here and we knew that this is where we wanted to be.  Greeneville is truly a little piece of heaven and we love it!
